Metrono / Funny Object is the result of a process of the remote accumulation of creative material. We commissioned Will Hurt to produce an animation or moving image, to incorporate a building of his choice - something from Great Yarmouth which stood out to him. Then, unlike the intimate and involved process of collaboration, we handed this work to Pedro Cassimo to respond to, to create something new and perhaps something which might not be the result of conventional collaboration. We were interested in how artists might respond to works in an evolving modular process, a sort of relay where an artist only has control of their part.

Pedro Cassimo is from Mozambique and currently lives and works in Great Yarmouth. He performs across musical forms, specialising in song-writing, musical production and poetry. In 2017 he performed as part of the UK Tour of 'Following the Fleet: Drifters', and featured in 'Don't Drop Carry On' presenting the best of Portuguese speaking Hip-Hop at The Mariner.

Will Hurt b.1984 (UK) uses computers to create brightly coloured, playful, digital interactives which cater to people of all ages and abilities and respond to the geometry of the physical sites they are installed in, abstracting and re-presenting local architecture and landscape.

These site-specific interactives bring people together, forging connections and affording moments of play, leaving people with lasting memories of novel experiences and a new appreciation of their locality. Hurt’s work has been exhibited around the world due to its stand-out aesthetic, technical resilience and engaging immediacy.

‘‘The “Upside-Down House” is a funny object. Voids and solids so recognisable, but now flipped.

I’m intrigued at how much or little you can take something apart and it still be the same thing and I’m looking forward to hearing other artists’ aural responses to the work- I have no idea what they might be and that’s an exciting thing.’’ - Will Hurt.
