Broken Folk is a trio from East Anglia featuring Jason Parr, Les Chappell and Liam Hadjipetrou. The trio formed through their mutual interests in percussion led improvised music and from playing together in Jason’s workshop on the east coast. We filmed the trio improvise in two very distinct locations; At sunset in Jason’s workshop and the following morning at sunrise on Great Yarmouth Jetty.

Liam Hadjipetrou is an artist and musician. He has been a percussionist for a number of years and recently taken up playing unusual instruments such as the hand pan, tongue drum and Kalimba. He is now making kinetic musical sculptures and is teacher working with challenged young people. His day to day work is to mentor and develop the practise of music and art with people who wouldn't necessarily see themselves as creative. As well as playing with the Broken Folk he exhibits his art work locally and nationally, he has a long track record of delivering workshops with children and adults. Liam has worked in collaboration with a number of arts organisations such as Same Sky in Brighton and Art Reach in Leicester.

Les Chappell Studied Fine Art at Central St Martins, London but the draw of music was always stronger. He went on to travel the World playing and enjoying music of all sorts. An early encounter with an African Culture Group sparked a resonance with Traditional Percussion and led to many Winters spent in Ghana. Working as a creative music facilitator, encouraging and nurturing the freedom to explore expression through shaping sounds in any form, from any source, for any age group, to Let go and Enjoy!
