Seaweed in the Fruit Locker with Rhys Morgan

Wednesday 17th, Thursday 18th & Friday 19th 4-6pm, Primeyarc.

Seaweed in the Fruitlocker is an LGBTQIA+ sea shanty choir formed by artist Rhys Morgan; exploring queer motifs within seafaring history and collective performance in marginalised communities through the tradition of shanty singing.

We will work together to write new shanties for Great Yarmouth that reflect the contemporary lives of the diverse commuities living here.

We welcome participants of all backgrounds, abilties and experiences.

Workshops will be held at Primeyarc, Market Gates Shopping Centre. You do not need to be able to attend all three workshops but you will get the most out of it if you can.

The workshops will culminate in a performance on Great Yarmouth's iconic Jetty at 3pm on Saturday 20th September as part of YARMONICS performance programme.

Solar instruments with Gijs Gieskes

Thursday 18th, Friday 19th 5-7pm & Saturday 20th 10am-12pm.

In the workshops, Gijs Gieskes will guide you in building a stick instrument using a beambot circuit. If you have another idea for a device you’d like to create with the circuit, you’re welcome to build that instead.

We will use freshly cut wooden branches to construct the instrument. If you already have an idea in mind, it’s best to bring any necessary materials so you can start building right away.

What you will learn / Who is this for?

  • – How to connect motors to a solar panel

  • – How to create moving structures from wood or other material

  • – No prior experience with electronics needed

Workshops held at Primeyarc, Market Gates Shopping Centre

The workshops will culminate in a presentation/performance as part of the main YARMONICS programme at 4pm on Saturday 20th September. This is optional. We recommend attending all workshops but it is not essential - we want you to take part when you can.
